    • Just wanted to pass along kudos for the great stuff ya'll turn out! I've been programming for more than 35 years on everything from Fortran IV with WATFOR on a 360/178 through the beginning of minis and now on to Joomla and almost everything in between. Outstanding job on your templates, this forum, and the community you have created. Love your stuff and will make sure there's always room in the budget for you. Many thanks! The RocketTheme templates are killer -- IMO, the very best available! Fantastic job!

    • I couldn't agree more. As I've mentioned in other threads, I am a supplanted asp.net guy coming from the DNN world, so I can really appreciate the quality of these templates and the overall community as a whole.

      ...can't say I miss paying ~$75 for a table-laden-63-errors-non-validating-bloated-piece-of-template, either. :)

Note to Andy (if you are still offering the linkbacks for good testimonals, this is my submission once I finish my current site...URL to follow):

"Simply put, RocketTheme is the reason I Joomla!" :)

Can I ask you how you would compare:
      1) Working with .asp versus working with Joomla
      2) In your opinion, is it cheaper to have a Joomla site built than a .asp site?

      Cheers!

Surprisingly, Joomla seems so polished to me that I am yet to touch a core file, save removing the meta generator with the Joomla copyright. :) I would like to go in and extend the registration fields, adding my own (avatar fields, city, state, newsletter checkbox, et al) rather than using a big extension to do it, and tweak a few things, but not knowing php, ergo...

...but I have jumped in an started poking around in some extensions (Fabrik, MyBlog, Jom Comment, etc) and changing a little here and there and it looks way more intuitive and easy to manipulate. ;) I think the php knowledgebase is, of course, much more complete and comprehensive...probably a function of its age vs asp.net.

I hear asp.net will be the future, but I am not so sure. I hear it is more powerful and extendable than php, and positioned to be more compatible with future technologies, but from what I have seen of php and the Joomla world, I am not as sure anymore. :)

      2) In your opinion, is it cheaper to have a Joomla site built than a .asp site?

I am yet to purchase hosting for a Joomla site, so I can't really compare the two, though the old adage seems to presuppose that Linux hosting is much cheaper than having to obtain MS licenses and the like...but can't comment on this one. I plan to go with Rochen to start and will just say that bandwidth-wise, it doesn't seem any cheaper to me. :)

I've really tried to master the basics, take a *bazillion* extensions for a test drive, get inside Joomla and the template system, etc, etc before I start cranking out sites....see a lot of what I would call 'geocities' type of sites being done with Joomla, and I am trying to avoid that. :) I think it's all coming together and I really love the platform.
