Gantry update 1.30 - broke

I have a new wrinkle for this issue. I was able to solve the problem with the site I mentioned above. I have a second site, which I was able to update to 1.31 without it causing an issue. I made sure to save the theme settings before doing so and figured that was what allowed for an easy update.
However, I just updated a third site and I saved the theme settings but this did not help. I ended up with the same issue, but this time, the above suggested solution resulted in the site coming back up partially, but I still cannot get access to the admin controls for the site. I ran through the above steps twice, but no luck, I still end up with no access to the admin section and errors on the page itself. In this case, one difference is that this site is running the Juxta theme. Not sure if that is an issue.

Not sure what went right, but after a good nights sleep and sitting down to try and tackle this problem again, I found that the admin screen would come up and I could fix the problem from there. I did not change anything, just literally hit the admin URL for the site. Maybe it just needed a rest.

So I decided to try my luck once more since the last time I posted because I didnt like the substitue template I was using. The functions/admin php fix mentioned earlier worked as prescribed. Not sure if I did it wrong the many times I tried before, but this time the stars must of been in alignment.
I did download the framework plugin first though. Maybe there was a fix in there that allowed the solution to work this time?

Is there any resolution to this? I've been fighting with this all day.
I've resolved to using the RocketLauncher 1.5 with WP 3.4.2, Crystalline, Gantry 1.2.8 as a way to completely get this working and trying to isolate the issue. Unfortunately----

When I do the fix proposed above, it will show the error below but some parts of the website work:
