    Site with technozine

Posted 18 years 2 months ago
    • Well I've finally re-launced the new and improved version of one of my sites.

This one is a fan site for the soon to be released Stargate SG-1: The Alliance game. The site has been running since December 2004.

It's pretty lacking in actual content at the moment because information about the game is rare.

Previous to this I was simply using a portal on the front page that linked into the forum and pulled all the data from that to populate the pages. All extra pages were then a modification of hte forum itself. I decided I needed a CMS to do it properly and here we have it.

The graphics on the site aren't the best - I'm definately not a designer although I try.

Anyway take a look. Feel free to comment if you like. I'm always up for ways to improve things :)

      The site: www.stargate-game.com

    • Thank you. Content unfortunately is a big issue at the moment.

I have tons of screen shots to put up but I can't get a gallery thing working properly. It wont perform the way I want it to. I think unfortunately I'll have to resort to tables :(

    • Ahhh...I used it in the css but you did mod the template and put it there.
I do like how you did the image behind it but do you notice the added latency for page loads?

    • No not at all. The Image in the background (background image in the CSS file) is relatively small. The image rotator is in the HTML (PHP) code rather than the CSS code. I don't know you can run a PHP script from with CSS can you?

Latency is barely there. The forum has been running teh same script for over 12 months and there are no issues with it so far.

It hasn't been updated in a while so it's possible it *may* have some wayward code in there, but there doesn't seem to be. It basically just looks for any image in the directory it's in and then displays it on the page.

    • You can use the php script in the css as a "img" source. :)
But this is where I found IE looks to load it twice. I confirmed it in the apache logs. Firefox didn't seem to have that issue so the only thing I could conclude was IE does some strange stuff with css.

That's an understatement. IE does some weird stuff with everything. It's not a compliant browser. Version 7 should be though.
