"Read More ..." Option

I've written an article and I am trying to use the "Read more..." option.
I am using the no-editor option to write my article. When I press the "Read more ..." button at the bottom of the editing window it inserts the following html code after the text where I put my cursor in the article:
<hr id="system-readmore" />
However, when I preview the site it just list the entire article and does not do the "Read more ..." trick.
Any ideas?
