SOLVED RokStories - Images Quality Help

Posted 11 years 7 months ago
    • I have installed Grunge and Rokstories on a test blog and got it almost working. For some reason I can't figure out, anytime I attached an image to a Rokstories post, the quality of the image shows as deteriorated.

For example, here is the source image and I used the link to this file as is in the Rokstories post:
This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

But when it displays in the browser, it looks like this.
This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

Any idea what is going on?

      Thanks,
      Doreen

    • Hi, check in the widget configuration and see if image generator is set to default instead of timthumb.

    • Hi Cliff:

Yes, it is set to timthumb. Any other reason why the image quality is still showing as deteriorated?

    • Hi, set it to default. TimThumb changes the image quality, you don't want to use that.

After you make the change, remove any thumbnails from the RokStories plugin cache folder to ensure they get recreated. Let me know if that helps.

    • Thanks Cliff. I did make the change including clearing the cache folder and they are still showing up deteriorated. What's next to try?

    • Hi, I was hoping that would help. It could be the way Wordpress compresses the images, by using default you're using the default Wordpress image resizer / compression which doesn't have many controls in the backend.

Maybe try the codes on this page: www.skidoosh.co.uk/php/wordpress-jpeg-th...ting-and-adjustment/ - put the top one in your theme directory functions.php file at the bottom. Clear the caches again afterwards and check again.

If that doesn't help, PM me your login and FTP info and I'll what I can do. Welcome to the wonderful world of Wordpress :)

    • LOL! The code you gave me didn't help, but I took another look at the widget. There is a place to specify both the image and thumbnail dimensions so I just set both to be the exact size I needed.

So I'm not sure this is a fix so much as a work around, but I'll take it; the images are showing up crisp & clean!

Thanks again for your help Cliff :cheesy:

    • Hi, it's just one of those things. If you use images with correct size, they don't need to be processed - any sort of processing will often change the resolution - especially if the new size is larger than the original. This is pretty much true for Joomla, Wordpress or anything else.

Let us know if you have more questions.

    • LOL! I always upload the exact size needed which is why I never thought to check for dim settings in the widget - live and learn ;)

      Thanks again Cliff :)
