Gantry Updates Keep Messing Up Menu Hierarchy

  • Gantry Updates Keep Messing Up Menu Hierarchy

    • Hi all,

Can someone explain why gantry updates keep on messing up a website menu hierarchy?
Every time I update gantry I have to rebuild my website menu layout, even though it's arranged and saved in 'Ordering' in the menu manager.

      Joomla 2.5.7
      Gantry 4.1.2

    • No reply? I thought I was crazy - I have the same issue. Did you find a fix yet? I am using a Crystallene template.

    • I have been having this same issue for months now, just updated Gantry again today, menu ordering changes again.

    • Same happens for me as well, extremely annoying, now I cannot even get out of the mess again, even rebuilding the template/assignment/menu structure, the menus are not working correctly anymore. Starting to beleive that this is a major bug in the Gantry framework, and really hope for a fix or some good advice.

    • Just chiming in. Are these sites upgrades from Joomla 1.5 or did they start out as Joomla 2.5 sites.

I experienced menu orders not sticking when the save button was used. I could use the arrows to set the menu order and then if I clicked the save button then they would reset to how they were originally. Maybe it was the other way around. Either way my menus items would default back to an order I did not want.

I will try to find the thread that outlined the fix. Again this had nothing to do with Gantry it was a core joomla issue. It could be that gantry is just triggering the menu order reset.

    • Hmm!,

I just updated Gantry to the latest and it again trashed the hierarchy. Even though the hierarchy was saved by 'Order'.

Thought I would take a peek at the menu 'order in the database and noticed that before and after the update is was set to '0'.

So, should it be '1' after saving the hierarchy by 'order'? If yes then is it a core bug? But I'm no expert on this.

    • I know this is not originally my post, but since it apparently affects more users, perhaps any input to Rockettheme would be valuable.

In our case it is a clean install of joomla 2.5.

Went back and downgraded to Gantry 3.3 (from 4.1.7), but it didn't have any effect. What Paul says here kinda makes sense - if it resets the order of the menu - in our case the menu references no longer work - we use a different override of the template for each menu choice, and if these template-overrides uses the menu order in the database as some soft of key, it will never turn back to the original state no matter which Gantry version i roll back to.
No expert me either, but I'll certainly watch my step before upgrading to a new version of Gantry next time, as the only way to go back to a working state was to reconfigure all faulty menus with their corresponding references.
