Hmm...I wonder what the RocketTheme team has been up to?

    • Terp: That WAS a joke, right? We waited a month for a new template and got the Owl Carousel..... oh whoop! LMAO!

IMHO: (You know I LOVE you RT, but some times, you just gotta' state the obvious)

Gantry 5 offered us a page builder which simplified things. For that, I am exceedingly grateful and wonder why it wasn't there long before now. That feature has been available elsewhere for some time. G4 works fine with at least one of them, so that isn't a "new" feature for me. (Not dissing, just stating a fact)

The templates created with G5 are not up to the standards we have come to expect and the ease of use... well, that is yet to be determined by the majority of users, not just developers.

Customizing the G5 templates (for the uninitiated or people who know just enough code to be dangerous) has required a large amount of study with documents not yet ripened for use by the masses. We've also had to learn MORE new LINGO to get through it all. Thus, a new Gantry, a new school, and TIME some of us don't have. (I have plenty of time and yes, learning is my passion, but for others, this is not so.)

If you are a newbie, the system AND the template schematics will take weeks if not months to learn. We have members going half nuts trying to figure out what to do with what they have.

For some, Gantry 4 is better in OH SO MANY different ways. Mainly, it's pretty much straightforward and idot proof. Now? Not so much.

I'm determined to plod through this new era but frankly, I miss the old templates which had more class, dazzle and pizzazz. It's what we crave and hang in there for.

All I can say is I hope we'll start seeing some of our old G4 templates converted to G5, especially the unique block variations. I'm attempting to do that offline with a few just for kicks and giggles. I live in fear of G4 going by the wayside and then I lose some of my long time favorites. <<<sniff, sniff, tears>>> :*(

Cheers all and have a great day.

    • What is the deadline for the March plan template? Just do not say that February is short this year :)

    • I agree with Empowermom. Sorry for my English.

I am not a coder, I am only Joomla advanced user and G5 is very complicated. We are non profit organisations and we do not have money to pay some coder.
I use some of Pagebuilders (Joomlashine, Joomshaper, CK Pagebuilder, Themexpert) and they are much easier for common user and they have a big advantage against G5 - pagebuilders can be use for all webpages (articles).

    • There was a day some of us were in a mad dash to be the first post on the first day of the month in this particular thread. That is usually CANDY DAY for me. This is the first time in for-ev-ah I almost forgot what the first of the month meant because I'm immersed in learning Gantry 5 and to heck with the templates for now. For the record, that is NOT a good attitude so don't replicate it. LOL!

I am having to eat most of my words about Gantry 5. All in all, when I look back at what we all went through with the introduction of Gantry 4, it isn't any different. New framework, new coding... but not necessarily HARDER. While I may not get "IT" yet, I have no doubts and all the faith that RocketTheme did get "IT" and they are leading us down the path to improvement. Once THEY get "IT" it's my job to catch up. I'm doing my part to get "IT" at the moment, but it will take time. Day by day, I see the benefits both now and down the road.

Sometimes, we are adjusted to a certain method of doing things. When the inevitable "upgrade" comes, we don't see the immediate value. We experience growing pains that come with change and often miss the big picture while focusing on the details. We ALL resist change. I, for one, am seriously bad about trying to adapt the old way into the new when it's easier to just learn the new and be done with it. That just makes it harder on me.

Gantry 5 is a massive change, but in this case, change is good. Is we who must adapt. And yes, sometimes, that wheel CAN be reinvented... as RocketTheme has shown us time and again. It will take time to get used to Gantry 5 for all of us. For anyone moving UP to Gantry 5, make a good backup of your live site and take it offline. Play with it, learn it, screw it up... it's okay. You are safe online. Just use Akeeba and back up every step of the way. It makes it easier when you blow things up to just do a quick restore.

Good thing we have the docs, these forums and the ultimate kewuhl Mod Squad to help us through it. Soooooo, while I am learning along with the rest of our Motley Crew and I just realized it's CANDY DAY:
      WHAT'S UP NEXT,
OH GREAT TEMPLATE GODS OF THE SKY?

Regarding the use of Page Builders: The above is correct, but it may affect the ability of your site content to be searched. MY jury is still out on that one.

This might be a good discussion thread elsewhere and I'm of the mind I think I'll start one.

If you think search through Google, I do not have problems with that.

I think people in RT should deep look at pagebuilder and take the good from it. It is much easier and any webpage can be done with it, I do not have to do template copy (outlines) as in G5. For example I cannot do 50 copies of template (outlines) for 1 website but I can make 100 or 1000 different pages in pagebuilder on 1 website.
G5 and pagebuilder can do similar things but G5 is much more complicated to use and big disadvantage is it cannot be used for the page I choose.
Some of pagebuilders can be use in the article and it is very easy and very powerful.

I learn how to use pagebuilder only for few minutes (all pagebuilders are very easy). With G5 it is few months and I still cannot use it and I do more things and more quickly in pagebuilder (G5 has similar features in particles, but I cannot use particle in any article...). I do not like G5 and it is not because it is new but because it is very complicated and difficult. I am sure beginner has no chance to use it.

I must disagree about beginners. ALL of us were beginners in this world of templates and codes at some point. We ALL endure the agony of upgrades. I believe beginners catch on quicker than the seasoned pros. They are like clean slates so they don't resist new concepts or changes to the framework like we do.

As to ease of use, I am just now learning my way around the PageBuilder you mentioned. I am probably having as much difficulty learning their way as you are RT's new framework. So I feel you bro!

Fast and easy doesn't mean better. As I learn more about Gantry 5, I keep getting more excited about it. I'm flooded with ideas as I learn the capabilities. It is alot to digest, but worth the effort from a beginner to a pro. We are all perpetual students around here.
