How do you make an unwritable file writeable again?

  • How do you make an unwritable file writeable again?

    • Hi,

I cannot edit light.css for Hivemind, because it is unwritable. In addition, I get this message at the top of the parameters section:

      The Parameter-File /templates/rt_hivemind_j15/params.ini is Unwritable!

How do I change this so I can edit the templates and CSS?

      Thanks!

      Jennifer

    • I get this all the time after saving, however you are still able to edit & save - although this could vary from server to server.

To make them writable, you need to access your site via FTP and use CHMOD to change the access rights temporarily to 777.

    • Once I FTP into my site you say use CHMOD, where do I do this? I've been right clicking on files like index and setting permissions to 777 and totally screwing things up.... I'm a serious newbie and need step my step instructions on how to make my template.css writable. Thank you very much!

    • Don't just go changing perms on files randomly, that's asking for trouble.

You can just set the permissions to 777 for the files you need to edit, then change them back when you're done.
