SOLVED Add new Joomla3.2 Module Edit Code to Template

Posted 11 years 4 months ago
    • Hi There,

Im using afterburner for a few not for profit sites, also I have a few older Joomla templates that done have the new 'module edit' hover code.

I was wondering, what is the code that creates the hover module edit button to appear, and where do I place it in order to enable this in afterburner (and other templates).

      Thanks!

    • This is actually not so easy because some additional coding is needed to be applied for this to work. This is not just a small addition to the template. I wouldn't even suggest you to use Joomla 3.2 for a production website. It is just not ready yet. Just check the official bug tracker for the number of reported bugs and official Joomla forum for the number of threads where people complain about things that are not working in Joomla 3.2. The biggest issue that it present so far and that is the main reason why Joomla 3.2.1 is not yet released is the issue with password encryption which can lock you out of the system completely.

    • This advice is surprising, as Joomla has already set it as a production release. All update functions for 3.0-3.1 sites will tell you to upgrade and its the main download on their site at the moment.

As far as the password security thing, as far as I was aware that was only with using some of the new advanced security features, which I opt to leave off anyways.

Did you know of any resources or have an example of the code required?

Once 3.2 is more stable, will you be doing updates for many of your new templates to ensure they are module editable? This would be an absolutely amazing feature for my clients to have access to ,and greatly speed up the way I develop! I assumed that it would be implemented into the gantry framework itself, and then be styled on the individual templates, as its a hover action not something that effects positioning of any elements.

It is more than that, you cannot opt out of it! It would be really wise to check the joomla issue tracker and read what the actual issue is, you will see that it goes much further than a simple issue which you can deal with by opting out.

    • Exactly as Roeland said. This is really not that simple as Joomla core developers might make you think. Things are far, far worse than you could think and can bring much trouble

    • Thanks for your help, might pop over and have a look at the issue tracker, it kinda sucks they would roll it out, and keep it rolled out if there are such severe issues.
