RokSprocket - show Registered User content with "Show unauthorized links"

    • I want to display articles that have 'Registered' permission settings together with publicly accessible articles to encourage users to register on the site.

The restricted access articles have their permissions set to 'Registered', a 'Read more' button after some intro text, 'Show authorised links' and 'Show Intro text' set to 'yes'?

I have the Menu Item where the module is displayed (in a module position) set to Public & it also has 'Show authorised links' and 'Show Intro text' enabled.

The module itself has Public access.

But the restricted articles do not appear. They only appear if the Menu Item is also set to Registered.

Also, in the modules 'Joomla Content Filter Rules' there is a filter 'Access level'. Settign this to 'Registered' ONLY works if the Menu Item is also set to 'Registered'.

Can someone confirm that what I am trying to do is not possible with RokSprocket? I have only found one post regarding this from 5 years ago and it was considered a bug: www.rockettheme.com/forum/configuration-...ed-links-or-articles

    • RokSprocket is not capable of combining Public and Registered articles at this time. However this might be a workaround. Assuming you've set up a Category for your Registered articles and you have a Hidden Menu with an item set as menutype=Category Blog this will allow you to get the actual URL's for the Registered articles.

With these collected, in your RokSprocket module add the Category of the Registered articles. This will bring in the currently unviewable Registered articles. Set "Strip HTML Tags" to NO. Then in the Filtered Article List set each Registered item's LINK to NONE.
In the Description field you can use this text:
      <p>Intro Text - article for Registered users</p>
      <p>&nbsp;</p>
      <a href="/site/index.php/component/users/?view=login&amp;Itemid=224&amp;return=L2lyaWRlc2NlbnQzNC9pbmRleC5waHAvdGVzdC1yc3AtcmVnLWFydGljbGVzP2lkPTE3MzphcnRpY2xlLTQtZmVhdHVyZXMtc2hvd2Nhc2UtcmVn"> Register to read more ...</a>

This will give you a pseudo Registered article that will display in RokSprocket and to see the Full text the user must Login.

    • Thanks you for the speedy reply, confirmation and workaround!

I will test this out and get back to you if I have any problems, but looking at your solution it should work because I know that the Registered items do get pulled in to the module even though they were not being displayed.

      Thank you again.

Keep me updated on your progress as I've already tried this and it worked for me ;)

    • I tried as you suggested:

Placed the Reg. Articles on a separate Category.
Created a hidden Category Blog Menu Item for this Category.
In the module I selected this Category and in the items that were pulled in, I edited the Description and configured the module as you suggested.

      The items do not show.

Please note - All the menu items and categories have Public permission settings. Only the Article has Registered permissions.

My bad I had my 1st test item inadvertently set to Public. Then I realized that this method doesn't really use the Registered article at all as you are supplying a custom link to where clicking the ReadMore is the same as the Registered article's.

So we still need placeholders for the Filtered Article List as we're using Joomla Provider so just make a new Category of Public articles with the Intro text only and in Add Filters replace the Registered Category with this new one. Since the article has the proper content in the Filtered Article List you can leave Title & Description as Default. The only thing custom will be the LINK which will point to the real Registered article.

In your Hidden Menu you would retain the Category of Registered articles so they open on their own menu page instead of the Home page.
