    • Assuming all other options fail and you have access to your database

If so, first create a new user and remember that password. (If you can't create a new user post back and I will send you a has code with a generic password)

Step 1. Once inside of your database find jos_users on the left side and click it
Step 2. Now, on the top left click on browse and be sure to stay away from anything that says DROP!
Step 3. Be very careful and click on what looks like a little pencil of your new user you created. (NOT THE X)
Step 4.Copy the long code under password and close without saving.
Step 5. Now go to the superadmin user, by clicking on the pencil for that one.
Step 6. Delete the old code/password and paste the one from new user.

That should make the super admin password the same as your new user account.

Please be very careful what you click!

    • Just adding in an entry in jos_users doesn't fix the issue. I remember doing this on my site too. I am pretty sure you have to give them user permissions in the ACL table as well... I am trying to remember how I did it, but it's pretty shaky. I have a horrible memory.

    • I'm glad to hear that the password issue was resolved...

I would like to offer another method that I find very quick and easy.

      Open your database in PhPMyAdmin...
      Select the user table
Browse the user table to find the user you want to change the password for
Select Edit for that user's record
      Delete the encrypted password
Enter the new password in plain text
In the column labeled Function, press the down arrow for the password field you are editing
Select MD5 from the select list
      Click the GO button

The plain text password you entered is automatically encrypted and is ready to use

This method always works for me...
