Joomla wrapper/iframe bg transparency

I'm looking to use a wrapper link on my site which is using the refraction template and have spent countless hours trying to find a solution. In firefox it looks great, however in internet explorer the iframe has a white background.
I've tried adding allowTransparency="true" to the com_wrapper\views\wrapper\tmpl\default.php, no luck. Checking using Developer Tools in IE it seems the attribute is not showing up, and when manually entered using the Developer Tools it does work, however i cant seem to get Joomla to produce this attribute?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, im completely stumped.
