Leave the DOM intact beyond domready

Posted 14 years 7 months ago
    • Hi,

I am not a regular member of this forum so I hope you apologize if I have managed to post in the wrong forum.

I am a developer of some extensions to be found on JED and one of them is a tab and slider plugin/module.

Now since some weeks I have been haunted by issue related to RT templates and haven't had time to look at it until today.

I just found the notorious javascript components/com_gantry/js/gantry-buildspans::GantryBuildSpans which seem to clone and replace h3 elements out of the DOM which of course leads to that any events tied to those h3 elements is thereby left dangling. All this for the sake of a differently styled first word.

The way I see it there are 2 options to achieve this without wrecking a havoc in the DOM.
      1. do it at the level of php within the template framework
      2. i have attached a version of the script that achieves practically the same thing but is still destructive, albeit less so, so I would still suggest to go with 1 above

Now why do I make such a big fuss about this minor issue you might ask.

Well for one RT is huge player in the template market so such small manipulation impacts hugely on others that develop scripts, scripts that need to be sure that the DOM is not altered beyond loading (domready). Second only yesterday I had read the www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=15..._v=viewtopic#p572169 and www.rockettheme.com/blog/joomla/899-third-party-styling from RT and was pleasantly surprised about the candid and personal approach to customers.

Therefore I truly hope that the plead goes both ways and that not only extensions developers but also template developers should uphold a good level of interoperability (in lack of better word) for the sake of the users.

      Thank you
      /Gobezu

    • We will take a look at this for you, but it wont be until after the november template release. This really is the first compatibility issue we've heard of regarding the fontspans feature.

      cheers.

    • Andy, wonderful!
In the mean time I will continue providing my script to those users that contacts me, if you don't have any objection.
      Thanks
