Mixing K2 and Gantry and Rocket themes

When reviewing a tutorial on K2, they imply that you should not mix Editors with K2 and say Rockettheme.
If you use K2, can you use the regular Gantry modules and mix with K2 items (articles)
It works so far but will it create problems later on???
The K2 module will not produce a black background like the Gantry module does automatically.
