hiding front page blog component, only show modules

Hi
I am stuck in a bind here.
I am using my one legit entitlement on a website using Affinity.
I have read all the docs, searched this forum, and searched the web, and I cannot find a way to show only modules on the site's home page... I choose to hide the front page component using the template control panel, but there is still a blank rectangle where the content used to appear.
If I post this problem, it gets deleted because I am not currently subscribed. BUT this feature does not work as advertised and I think I should be able to get support because it is part of my one entitlement.
This cannot be this hard! Why doesn't the component disappear when using your template options??
If you insist on deleting this post again, could you maybe offer advice on how to do it with free template??
