    Groan - Newbie Installation

Posted 14 years 2 months ago
    • I just have to apologize up front....the answers have to be somewhere as yet undiscovered for me. I've been working with Rockettheme templates for over a year however, I've been obviously lucky enough to have someone else doing the installations for me.

On my own now with my own hosting reseller account and have made several attempts to install templates. I used RL for one installation but was overwhelmed by all the sample data I didn't need.

Here's my attempt to install Hybrid via Bundle and Extensions without the sample data - two things have baffled me. First off, why do I get a blank second page - see Studio Rental link.

      casper.vpgraphix.com

And - why do I get such limited editing options in the articles & modules - I have Super Administrator options. Obviously another step missed because I'm missing a whack of options here.

I've been at it a couple of hours between Rockettheme and Joomla, trying to understand installs - I admit my eyeballs have now rolled into the back of my head, I've gone in so many circles. Quite probably, I'm missing the lingo to do proper search functions to get help with my questions.

I'd appreciate the help with links to Tutorials that can direct me.

      A.

    • For RL.

      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=45...25403&rb_v=viewtopic

See here for notes installing the template with a stock install of Joomla and no sample data:

      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=45...04899&rb_v=viewtopic

(If you used the RL wih no sample data, it's advisable to start over.)

Looks like SEF is not configured properly.

      Basic Core SEF:

If joomla is in the root; htdocs, or public_html...

In Global Configurations, Search Engine Friendly URLs Yes, Use Apache mod_rewrite Yes, Add suffix to URLs No.

      Change htaccess.txt to .htaccess.

If it’s in a folder, you need to change the # RewriteBase / to reflect the path of your site.

      Change:

      # RewriteBase /

      to:

RewriteBase /(the name of the folder joomla is in)

If that doesn't work, search or post here:

      forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=544

If you are using a 3rd part component, contact the developer.

      A.

Without the sample data, you will have to add everything yourself...

We often suggest installing a 'spare' copy of the template with the RL and sample data in a subfolder or local host for reference.

That way you can see how the content is organized and coded.

    • Thanks. I've made change number one to Basic Core SEF.

I have found htaccess.txt in the /home/caspervp/public_html/htaccess.txt. When I right click to edit, is the suggested change to the name of the file or to lines within that file? Not sure I understand exactly this step.

This copied from the file itself:

      # RewriteBase /

########## Begin - Joomla! core SEF Section
      #
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/index.php
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (/|\.php|\.html|\.htm|\.feed|\.pdf|\.raw|/[^.]*)$ [NC]
      RewriteRule (.*) index.php
      RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization},L]

      Thanks for your assistance!

    • Your site is in the root, so there is no need to edit the # RewriteBase / line.
