Re-Posting of Content and the Dig Millenium Copyright Act
Posted 14 years 1 month ago
Good Evening Web Developers!
I have a concern that when my content managers repost content from other sites, we're infringing upon copyright laws. We are always giving proper attribution to the original authors and do not change any content, but simply repost the content into our Joomla site. I've reviewed the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998 and I haven't been able to find any language that prevents us from doing this. We actually have permission specifically from one source, however, it would be next to impossible to get permission from all sources because obviously, the Internet has an endless stream of content!!
Visit our website and click an article in "Other Top News Reports" and you'll see some examples of the content we repost:

If you have any input that would be outstanding. I just want to get some folks' opinions. A question from one of my Webmasters arose and i thought now would be a good time to address it formally here.

Honestly - the one thing that drives the whole copyright movement is money. If another content generator/creator feels that your using of their content is taking away their revenue stream - they can come after you. If you are posing their content as yours with out permission, they can come after you. If you are earning money off their product, they can come after you. Be careful in that area.

Personally, I would be careful about posting full articles without permission. If the stories came to you through a RSS feed you would be okay as that is information THEY are syndicating. If, however; you go out to places on the web and copy complete articles, whether you give credit or not, you are infringing upon their copyright.
Most places will only allow you to copy an introduction (from a few sentences to the first few paragraphs) and then link back to their site for the full article.
