    • This is one of the reasons I recently switched from Joomla to vBulletin. vBulletin is outstanding compared to Joomla and I couldn't be happier,.. except for the available vB themes *hint* (RT could make a killing with vBulletin themes and mods).

I wonder how long it will take JomSocial to be compatible with Joomla 1.7, probably not till 1.8 is available :|

Actually with steady often updated releases it is better. But that is of course if you can develop in a mentality that is conducive to logic and reason. I am still not developing in 1.6 for clients. Why? My clients prefer their sites remain live consistently and reliably. I'll move to 1.6 sometime after 1.7 is made available as a release and plenty of people have used 1.6 thoroughly. I don't like using my clients as Beta testers. ;-)

Just use 1.7 on your local development environment and have a lot of fun developing a new release. :cheesy:
Well, as I understand they are gonna drop support for 1.6 real soon after 1.7 release, so you are gonna be forced to 1.7... But i think they are somewhat fuzzy bout this date themselves. Also, lets hope the public outcry will make them to prolong it.

    • There is an update package from 1.6.5 to 1.7.0RC1.
Does this mean that there is some kind of compatible structure between 1.6 and 1.7 ? Unlike with 1.5 there wasn't an upgrade patch for going to 1.6.

Once 1.7 is released, support and upgrades will stop 1 month after the release. So I'm a bit confused why RT decided to make 1.6 themes after all ? Also 1.7 is a release in between, early 2012 they will release 1.8 with end of support for 1.7.

I really hope the switch between 1.6 and 1.7 will be easier, and also for 1.7 to 1.8 because I want to use the new authentication features in new projects...
