    K2 - Catalog Example

Posted 13 years 10 months ago
    • Hi,

I am looking at creating a Catalog.
Zoo is a good looking one (Cost Issue)

Everyone says K2 can do this.
I am yet to see a K2 Catalog that looks like Zoo.

I am also yet to see a Tutorial that shows you how to setup the basic Catalog in K2.

If you know of a site that uses K2 as a Catalog, please post so I can see what K2 can do.

Looking forward to lots of examples.

    • Hi, probably the best example is on the K2 demo site

In my experience, there isn't much documentation on how to set up a site like that in K2 and it can be very complicated to work with as there are so many settings. You might have better luck asking this question on the K2 forum.

If you're looking for a simple catalog extension you might want to check out Dj Catalog 2 - I've had good luck with this one and it's very easy to use. Not as many features as K2, but it's easy to work with.

    • I don't mind DJ Catalog, but their Demo does not draw one to say, "THIS IS IT!" I think they need to set the demo on a much better Template and showcase it. Instead of showing it on an old ROK Theme.

Their site is good looking, but not their demo of DJ Catalog.

If you want to compete with Zoo, then you much show the goods!

Are you saying that nobody on ROK Planet made a catalog with K2?

    • I'm sure there are lots of people that have done it. I was just saying I haven't seen a lot of documentation for K2 when it comes to this, and I've looked. And if you haven't worked with it, it's a bumpy ride. I've always opted for something more simple personally.

If you really want Zoo, save your pennies and get it. Or hit up the k2 site and start going through the tutorials they do have, check their forums ECT. I don't know how much k2 support you'll get here.

    • I hear you! While I'm saving for Zoo, I think I will take the challenge to setup K2 as Catalog.
Maybe I will create a Tutorial so others can learn from my mistakes.

      I will document it..

      Thanks for your help.

    • Right on man, good luck with that. If you come up with something post it and let me know.

It's a very cool extension, but it can be difficult to work with. That information would help a lot of people and be welcomed by many.

    • Hi Cliff,

I bought Zoo, but I am now faced with the challenge that they don't do Tabs per product or they don't care about adding it either!

To create Tabs should not be an issue, BUT, I will have at least 50 products.
That's too many articles.3 per product (150) just to show case 50 products.

I could just as well use standard articles.
I did a Catalog for customer using just JOOMLA. (I will PM you the link if you want to see it)

With Joomla 1.6 and the Category issue resolved, maybe that's an option for me.

Any news on K2 Catalog stuff?

    • No news, we really don't do tutorials or support for K2, and I personally don't use it a lot. As I said, you might have better luck on the K2 forum, I know they have tutorials and documentation as well. I also think it's pretty vague in a lot of cases so the best thing to do is getting running and work through what you need. Unfortunately there probably isn't an easy answer.
