How do I create a splash page?

Posted 13 years 9 months ago
    • Hey guys,

Currently I'm working on building my website, so the joomla installation is in a sub folder.

I want to display a large wallpaper type image as the splash page where I can inform the public that the site is coming soon. It's been a long time since I've dealt with splash pages, from what I remember I need to create an index file and place it in the root. However, what would be the proper code to input, and what can I do about making sure the image adjusts to certain screen resolutions based on the users screen size?

If anyone could write some code up for me I'd be so grateful to you!

    • Hey, thank you for this information. Although, none of it pertains to what I need.

The template I am using is for development purposes only. See, I have this idea for a website but it needs to be built from the ground up. Joomla, dupral, nor any of the other CMS or even commercial CMS's seem to offer what I am looking for. So, I am designing a dev site to use and pitch concepts and examples to prospective investors.

However, I am using my domain name (main domain for the future site) as this dev site's domain. I don't want the general public to see this website, however I want to get my URL listed on the internet at this point. When someone clicks my domain, instead of them entering my dev site, I just want them to see a splash page. I know that they are no longer useful for displaying information to visitors if you have a LIVE site, however I'm not too worried since my real site isn't even developed yet.

So, if I create an index file, what code would I use to link to the bg image, as well as possibly (hopefully) code which detects screen resolution of the user?

    • Most servers default to index.htm or index.html. Creating one of these files in your root directory should suffice. You would create the page there and place your images there as well, just as you would do with any other static HTML or HTM page. Sorry, as far as automatic detection of a user’s screen resolution, I can’t help you there.
