      hi there,

you need to have 2 template styles.
style 1 > in the 'menu assignment' tab, assign it to your default menu item and the pages of the default language, then in the 'menus' tab, configure it to use the menu which you set up for your default language.
style 2 > in the 'menu assignment' tab, assign it to the pages of your 2nd language, then in the 'menus' tab, configure it to use the menu which you set up for your 2nd language.

      kat :)

      Hello again Kat,

Thank you for your patience. I've already switched the menu items associations exactly as they were before, and the switcher language module (selector de idiomas) should be working correctly for now. It is currently set for spanish, but if you want, you're always welcome to set it up for all languages.

According to several tuts i've read about multilingual sites, including those for rockettheme and specifically the roknavmenu, I noticed that i had to copy my template twice, so that I get in the end one template for spanish, one for english, and the master template set for all languages. I don't know if I misunderstood the instructions or if it just wasn't necessary to do so. Anyways, thanks for your replies Kat!
      hi esau,

apologies for not replying, i must have missed your post somehow. that's correct, you need 2 template styles to have this working properly. glad you figured it out! :)

    • Frank,

      Thank you for your tutorial.

Can you elaborate a little bit more on this matter?

"In Joomla 1.7 you DO NOT have to create a menu item in the Mainmenu for each language, but you MUST create a new (main)menu for each language on your site."

    • Hi Kat, apologiers for taking soooo long to answer this post, I got it working now. Both templte and language settings were correct, it was just an issue with the language installation, but I've upgraded both joomla and es-ES language and it all works like charm now :D thanks so much for your help Kat!

    • Hi, I faced a similar issue on the latest template out (Fresco?). The problem is (I think) is that the homepage has a style and the rest of the pages has a different style. Therefore, when you dublicate the styles you will end up with 4 styles. While the the homepage styles will be assigned to the homepage item on each language, the 2 other styles will be in conflict if you choose different menu items for both.

A possible solution to this which I had to do is to assign one of the normal pages styles to all of the menu items of your secondary language. This works great. But, I think a problem my arises if you access a page that is not in the menu. But I guess even in this case you can solve this by assigning a layout for menu-less pages I would assume?

Just thought I'd put this forward in case someone found a similar issue or had this error because of this conflicting issue.

    • If this isn't a tutorial. It should be made one with some screen shots (without the troubleshooting). The important step is the making language specific copies, with menu assignments, of your template. :)

    • Hi,

Is there any scenario on which, upon picking other language, it redirects to the respective page instead of (ALWAYS) the HOME page?

      Thanks

    • Hi Rui,

you have to setup a so called "Menu Item Associations" for each menu entry. Go to "menus", choose your desired menu, select an menu entry. On the right hand side column expand "Menu Item Associations" and you will be fine; you have to connect each item with corresponding item in the other language.
