    • Hello ,
i need some advice please , i'm completely new to all this so i might not be able to explain things in technical terms but would appreciate some help.

I am using the reflex template on a joomla 2.5 database . My web server does a 1 click install option and set up the joomla database for me

After getting to grips with things i clicked on the view website option and everything looks like its working fine , the one thing i did notice though is that on the browser bar it is showing as mywebsite.com/joomla16 . When i click on mywebsite.com it comes up with an error message.

I have checked in my web files on my server and everything is being saved on there in web/joomla16 .
To get all this to work on my website.com i understand that all these files need to be in the "web" folder and not the sub folder of "web/joomla16"
      My questions are :-
How do i transfer everything into the "web" folder safely , is it a case of build the site saving everything in "web/joomla16" as it is now then FTP it into the "web" folder ?

if so do i delete the contents of "web/joomla16"

      Or

Is there a setting within the database to get joomla 2.5 to automatically store things in the "web" folder.

I have quite a large gallery to build so once the core structure of the site is ready , i will be making daily updates, so is it possible to get the site back live and do my updates daily with ease or is it a case of each time i update i then have to then FTP the whole thing over, overriding my previous days changes .

I hope all that makes sense ,

      cheers
      Dave

    • in the "one-click" install there is an option that you may not have noticed for the location og the install. It is an input box that said /joomla16

You should have changed that to /

Now you need to delete the entire joomla16 directory and reinstall.

Oh no , so basically i have to start the whole thing from scratch again , is that right ?

Is there no way of saving what i have done so far and some way putting it all back into the new database ?

Thank you for your help , i really appreciate it

    • oh no I am sorry I assumed that you have not done much.

You can alternatively use Akeeba Backup to make a copy of your site and then redeploy it to the root of your hosting site

      akeebabackup.com

Akeeba is something that you must learn how to use to protect your site in case of data loss or hacking. No better time to start learning than right away for something so important.

It may seem a little daunting at first but just be patient and read the documentation it really is simple. Once you know how to do it you can back up a large site, download it, and restore to a new location in a few minutes.

      cheers

    • you will need to then open the config.php file and change the DB name, user, and password and save it.
