  • Site is slow and consumes a lot of cpu w mysql after upgrade

Posted 13 years 3 weeks ago
    • Hi All,

I've been struggeling for a good 6 days now, after upgrading from Joomla 1.7.5 to Joomla 2.5.4.
I used as suggested by the joomla team, the Update function within joomla as adviced by the Joomla Dev Team.

Now, all went well, but after upgrading I've seen high spikes on my Turnkeylinux Joomla Virtual Appliance as mysql runs on average on 110% cpu. I have 2 CPUs(vcpus) assaign to the VM so it has more than enough cpu power. But, it actually is beginning to be critical as it all of a sudden just drops, and I need to reboot to get it up and running again.
When I take a look at active connections in mysql i see a lot of this:

      SELECT b.rules FROM j17_assets AS a LEFT JOIN j17_assets AS b ON b.lft <= a.lft AND b.rgt >= a.rgt WHERE (a.name = 'com_content.article.1255' OR a.parent_id=0) GROUP BY b.id, b.rules, b.lft ORDER BY b.lft
Sometimes I can see up to 40 entries on this with different com_content.article.xxxx numbers.
      What does this mean?
Now, I'm not that a techy on mysql and core joomla, but this seems to be something that's slowing the website down.
Please help out!!!! as the Joomla Forum on joomla.org is currently disabled!

    • 1. is joomla cache on
      2. is gantry cache on
      3. is gantry gzipper on OR joomla gzip on (NOT BOTH!).
      4. consider using Akeeba Admin Tools to optimise tables.

      I hope that helps.

      Regards, Mark.

    • 1. NO
      2. Yes
      3. Gantry Cahe ON - Joomla gzip NO
      4. Yes, and they are optimized

So, I've tried basically those 4 things!

    • Turn on joomla cache and turn on Gantry gzipper (now you have turned joomla gzip off) they will make a huge difference, also move your joomla cache time up to 45 mins.
