"Me" Troulbe with Rocket Launcher....help please!!

  • "Me" Troulbe with Rocket Launcher....help please!!

    • Hi folks, I followed the video tutorial on the RT site about installing Simplix via Rocket Launcher to my sever. But after I place the folder joomla_RT_simplix folder on my sever via ftp i can't navigate to the new intro page as the video says? Now, I have no doubt, this is probably me just making a beginners mistake (because I am a beginner ;))

Could you answer me these few questions:

      1. when I upload to my sever via ftp can I place the "joomla_RT_simplix" folder just beside the other folders on my sever or do I need to place it inside the "public_html" folder?

      2. I already had/have joomla installed on my site just using a siteground free template as a holding site until I change to the Simplix site. Should I have removed the old joomla installation before I tried the rocket launcher.

I was up for about 4 hours last night to try to get this work...............my nerves are shattered........... ;D Somebody please feel sorry for me and help :D

    • Thanks James for the quick reply. I followed your instructions but still I cant get on, I just get a error message. I think because of my zero ftp knowledge and my deleting and uploading (probably to the wrong place on the sever that I have completely messed things up ??? So in a sense I'm not surprised I'm shut out!!

Anyhow, because I only had a free template on my site and no data or info that i need to save is there away i can clear my hosting area completely and start again fres, clean and uncluttered because think I've messed things really up. can I do this from my ftp by just deleting all the folders or do I need to see my hosting company (siteground.com)? Or is there folders that need to stay that have been placed there by siteground?

Might be another long night :)

    • You should be able to clear everything in FTP.

Yes, everything you want to be able to browse to, must go into the public_html folder. After that, just follow James S' instructions :) .

    • Thanks, phlux0r and James for all the help :)

One more general question: I am and will continue to use joomla, but is there any reason that RT templates could not be used directly on the web without using joomla? ???

    • You can use them without joomla, just need to get rid of the joomla code and just use the normal HTML and CSS.

    • Hello again!!

I got my hosting sever reset and once again I uploaded the joomla_RT_Simplix folder via ftp to my site I then went to:

www.thailandadoption.net/Joomla_RT_Simplix  ; and .......nothing......my browser cannot find it. I have attached a screenshot of my ftp's screen showing what is on my sever so perhaps someone could check for me if all is ok on the sever and is my url path ok? I have tried a range of different paths but nothing seems to work for me :'(.

Sorry for the need for hand holding but my hair has turned to white instead of its usual grey ::)

      thanks...............

    • Ok, here's what is apparent from your screenshot of your file structure on your server:

You uploaded the Joomla installation (presumably the rocket launcher one) into your account root, hence all the joomla folders are hanging off the thailandadoption.net top level. then you have under public_html only the templates folder.

What you need to do is either move all the Joomla folders underneath the public_html folder or delete them all and upload them again into the public_html folder, not the account root as now.

As I said, your website files must be under public_html to work since that is usually set as the webroot for your website. Anything outside of the public_html folder is not "seen" by the webserver.
