What's involved in the conversion of the old templates?

I know you guys are hard at work converting the old 1.5 templates to 2.5, but I was curious what was involved? Meaning do you use any of the Joomla conversion tools, or just do it by hand? I'm also wondering, once you get the site converted (or if it's new), what is the process of setting up a rocket launcher? Is it as simple as:
1. Install latest version of Joomla
2. Install latest version of Gantry
3. Install all extensions
4. Install the new/converted Template with demo content
5. Zip up that directory
I have an idea for a Theme I'd like to eventually share once I create it and just wondering what the process is? Are there any automation tools, trick, tips, etc?
