ERROR 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND

  • ERROR 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND

Posted 12 years 11 months ago
    • Hi Everyone,

I have recently replaced the companies old website for a new joomla site.

When i type the company name in google its shows the main url

and underneath it shows urls, relating to the company website.

But since i changed the system to joomla those pages no longer exist.

How do i remove these links? or even update them to point to the new website??

      Please help me!! thanks!!

    • Most likely you will need to wait until Google indexes your website again with the new links.

    • Hi thanks for the reply.

How about if i make some redirections from the old link to the new link??

Is this the wrong way to fix it? or should i just wait for google to index it?

      Thanks

    • You can't do anything about those links yourself, Google is the one that decides which (if any) urls are shown there.

If you've changed all your url's however, you want to create 301 redirects asap from any old urls to new ones so that you don't lose any link juice.

    • Thanks guys for the help!!

So just to confirm, if i make the 301 redirects from all the old links to the new links

google will update this for me automatically overtime and change the links permanently??

The only reason why i didn't change all my links because we completely scratched our

old website (which was using different CMS) and recreated it with joomla.

      Thanks :) :)

    • It depends on how it was setup. If it was setup like this:

      yoursite.com/wordpress (old site)

      yoursite.com/joomla (new site)

Then you could do a 301 and re-direct to the new directory :)
