Help with a Rocket Launcher install

Posted 17 years 8 months ago
    • Ok so I get the basic idea.. I understand that I just upload the entire Template_Name file to the Public_HTML directory and run th install from the browser.. The problem where I run out of "know how" is when I arrive at the SQL portion.. I, to this day do not really understand how SQL works or really what it even is.

Could someone do me a huge favor talk talk stupid to me?.. Just tell me where I can go to find the items I am supposed to plug into the fields.. I kinda assume it is going to be something to do with the little "MySQL" area on my Cpanel.

I've never run into this issue in the past because all prior Joomla installs have been via Fantastico.. I've never actually done a manual Joomla install..

      All help will be appreciated..

    • Hey guys, while nobody has replied yet I wanted to just add a couple of other issue's i'm now encountering.

Why is the configuration file by default called "configuration.php-dist" ? Do I need to rename that? I'm also having a permissions issue with the configuration.php file, is it related?

Also by default, nearly every file and directory are in red "unwritable".. I don't have a very good understanding of the "permissions" thing.. does putting all of those files and directories as 777 solve this issue, or am I fixing the problem but granting too many permissions than necessary?

Also what causes these to be unwritable by default.. The tutorial video showed all greens right off the bat.. Is it unusual that mine were all red right off the bat? I set up a fresh hosting account for this from my reseller package so everything is in pristine default condition.. Why would there be errors?

      Thanks again..

    • For this instance, I would recommend you visit the Installation forums at forum.joomla.org

      In short:

-configuration.php is created through the installer, the .php-dist file is just a backup
-the SQL information should be provided by your hosting provider

    • If there are rights issues, you will be informed of this at the end of the installer, at which point you are shown the contents of configuration.php in order to allow you to copy & paste the config into your own configuration.php file, which you then manually upload to the server. It's explained at the end of the installer.
