Launch Simple Popups from Menu Item?

Okay Folks, this might be a simple question, but as I'm a very new Joomla user, I'm hoping other people might have an easy solution.
My site is football site, and from my fusion-menu, I have a big 4 column list of football definition terms. For each term, I've painstakingly created an "article" that give the definition of that term. But when I have users click on a particular term in the menu, instead of leading them to an article that shows a single sentence definition, I wanted to be able to just have the text of that article (a very short definition) pop up as a rokbox popup.
I explored the Simple Pop-up Plugin, but couldn't figure out how to get that to launch from a menu item.
In short, I need to be able to display very short simple text popups launched from clicking on a different fusion menu item.
Any suggestions?
