Module link opneing on home page

Posted 12 years 11 months ago
    • I understand that in order to get a link generated by a module to open up on another page other than the home page, you need to put in the id of another menu option and I have done just that and it works perfect. However, I have used the id of a menu item that is of course not the HOME id but yet when I click on the link in the module the menu highlights HOME in the menu indicating to the user that they are on the home page. Go to www.splitlightdesigns.com/wright/index.php and look at the bottom right of the page and click on "More Details" in the Workshops and Seminars section and this will take you to a more details page for that seminar. When on the details page note that the menu indicates you are on the home page. I would prefer it not indicate anything. Is this possible to get joomla to do this?

I would ask this question on the Joomla forums but the site is down and appears to have been spammed to death.

Well let's give it a shot.
Create a new Category - "More Details"
Create your article - "More Details 1 Article" in the Category - "More Details"
Create a new menu called "Hidden Menu"
Create a new menu item - Single article type link for it called "More Details 1 menu link"

Then using all the aliases from above, manufacture the new link that you'll use in your Home page module
      www.splitlightdesigns.com/wright/index.php
      + (menu name alias)
      more-details-1-menu-link
      + (article id#-article alias)
      38-more-details-1-article

so the entire link would be:
This will put you on the "Hidden Menu" -> "More Details 1 menu link" menu page. Since the Hidden Menu isn't published anywhere it doesn't trigger any of your Main Menu items when the link is used. Also since "Hidden Menu" -> "More Details 1 menu link" is a totally valid link you can assign modules to it, to make the page look as you wish.

      Hope this helps a bit.
