How to get static content to User6

Posted 17 years 8 months ago
    • Hi,

Yes I know, a similar question has already be posted here, however I'm searching for a different approach. I'm searching a way to post a 'menu' to the User6 module of template Colormatic.

I've set up a new section and a new category. Afterwards I've created a content item for this section and category and set Frontpage to false. I've copied the 'Latest News' module, set its position to User6, CategoryId and SectionID from the step above and published it.

This works quite well and I get a new entry in User6.

The problem now is that this content item also shows up in 'Popular' and 'Latest News' module. To be more precisely, I would like to publish a link to a content item called 'Imprint'. Of course this item should not be visible in Popular and Latest.

I already tried the solution describe here http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?t=17218&rb_v=viewtopic , however this implies to publish a real content in User6. My goal isl, however, to publish more than one link in this section, linking to various content items like an imprint or to 'Contact Us' and so on.

Of course I could simply insert one or more URLs, however those URLs include my current, local IP address which I have to adapt again, when restoring a local copy to the hosting provider.

So any idea is greatly welcome :)

    • Copy your content by highlighting all your content then pressing control-c. Then goto module manager and click on "new module."

Paste your copied text into the white box by pressing ctrl-v. Then publish the new module to User6.

      Easy as that!

    • Robert,

I appreciate your reply although I've already linked to this topic where you described this way.

However I don't want to publish the content text in User6 but one or more links to content or static items. When using your way I could simply insert some URLs in the content, that's right. The problem I encounter is that those URLs are only valid for my local test installation and not when transferring a copy of the local Joomla to my hoster.

Do you know a way to insert 'dynamic' URLs into the content text? Sthg like {local_url}\index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=1

    • Are you wanting to create a custom menu for your static content items and publish them to this area?

    • This would be an option, too - and I've already tried this, however it really looks like an unprofessional menu published there. But wait, how would you do this? I've created a new menu called eg. User6 area, didn't show the title and added some menu items like my static content page, 'imprint' and the 'contact us' page.

      However it didn't look perfectly.

    • Create a new menu in the menu manager. Create menu items. Go to the module manager and publish that menu to user6. Choose "Flat list" as the menu type.

Add css styling to make the menu list appear as you want it.

    • Hi and thanks for reply.

I did this before and the menu looks like in the attachment, using Colormatic. It is underlined and has got a bullet in front of.

You wrote I should add some CSS to make it look like I wish. Where would you add this?

    • Replying myself:

I've put 'mainlevel' into Menu Class Suffix in the newly added site module. Now, I got rid of the underline and bold written letters and have got a simple enumerated display.

I guess now I will find the rest. Thanks again!
