SOLVED How to prevent menu items in site meta description?
Posted 12 years 8 months ago
On Google part of my site meta description is cut to make room to mainmenu item names, including submenus. I don't want Google to use the main menu item names in the site description. I want only the site meta description written by me (in Global Configuration - Metadata Settings). However I want Google to follow all links and index all pages. What is the correct way to achive this?
What happens if in menu manager I set for all menu items Robots = No index, Follows? Only menu item names are not indexed or the whole articles the menu items refer?
By the way, can anybody suggest me a free web service to inspect how my hompege is seen by Google and appearing after the next crawl?

Why I should not post a question like this here? There are many threads here concerning Joomla core features. There are also many discussions about things that are even less close to RT. If I post a question in the Apple/Mac section you'll tell me to move it to the official Apple forum?
Then my question might be also related to the use of RT templates and extensions. With older RT template based sites I'm not experiencing this problem and it could also depend on RT Fusion menu settings which is not part of the Joomla core.
I have the feeling that the solution is very easy and widely used by RT template users. If anybody is willing to share this knowledge it would be very useful for me and other member of this community too.

I don't plan to argue on this at all. I told you why I think it is better to post this to official Joomla forum but you are free to discuss this here as you wish

I'm sure that in all well constructed RT based Joomla sites this problem is solved and Google is not showing their menu items and submenu items names in the site description. Probably the solution is easy too, I'm just missing something.
I'm sure that many people managing this smaller community know and use the solution everyday, but let's go with crossposting and hear the bigger Joomla community...:

I promise that once found the solution I'll share here the explanation itself or a link to it...
I still hope that somebody will share the knowledge here or there...

Things are back to normal/expected!
It seems that it was a combination of a mistake I did and a strange behaviour of the mainmenu's metadata handling. I'm not 100% sure because this is a live website and I cannot reproduce the problem and wait again for Google crawling the site and then correct it again...
My mistake: I completely forgot that in Menu Manager once I've added a meta description for Home.
The strange thing: on Google this metadescription was not preceding the meta description set in Global configuration, but it was cutting and substituting the first part of it.
Even more strange: with this metadescription present also the end of the global metadescription was cut and substituted on Google by the first menu items and submenu items.
