Change the logo when you change the language in 2.5

  • Change the logo when you change the language in 2.5

Posted 12 years 7 months ago
    • I have a site with English and French. I've got all the other language elements changing nicely (menu, articles, modules, etc.) but I can't find a way to have the logo switch. I thought that when I created the copy of the template it would actually create an entirely different template on the server but that doesn't seem to be the case (that I can see). I can go into the French version of the template and turn the logo on or off and it works nicely but where do I actually go to change the logo so when I use the English language selector I get the English logo and when I use the French language selector I get a French logo?

    • The overripe template will only change what you tell it to: www.gantry-framework.org/documentation/j...e/template-overrides

So if you want to override the logo for example, make sure that the box next to Logo in the template manager in the modify template is checked.

    • I understand that but where would I go to actually tell the system to use logo 2 as opposed to logo 1 for example. As I mentioned, What I thought would happen when creating the second template is that there would be an entirely new stylesheet somewhere or an addition to the template.css stylesheet where I would define the path for logo 2 but I don;t see that happening. So, the question is, where do I go and what do I do to tell the system that for language 2 I want to use logo 2?

    • Did you look at the link in my post?

In the modified template check the box next to logo, choose a different logo, and save the template. Then use the assignments tab to assign that template to any page where you want the new logo to be applied.

    • I'm very sorry but I'm obviously missing something. I did read the content from the link and watch the video but it doesn't seem to pertain to the exact thing that I'm trying to do. You mention "change the logo" but that is the particular issue. I can change the 3 parameters of the logo but there is nowhere for me to assign the logo the 2nd logo. My only options in gantry are show on/off, position, and auto-size on/off. So exactly where do I assign the second logo? Again I'm very sorry if the answer is right in front of me and I'm not seeing it. Sometimes that happens.

By way of example, in my duplicated French template, I can switch the show on to off and then when I go to the front end and switch the language to French presto no logo on the French version which is exactly what it should do. So yes, the template override system is working as expected except that I don't see an actual place to actually assign a 2nd logo.

Thanks very much for your support.

Under Type select custom and a second area called Logo Picker will appear bellow. Again check the box on the left to indicate you want to use the logo picker as an override and click Select to choose a new logo, either through the Media Manager or RokGallery if you have it installed.

    • I see the issue now. I don't have a "type" dropdown. All I have is what I mentioned above which are:
      Show (on/off)
      Position (dropdown)
      Auto Size (on/off)
I'm using the halycyon template. Perhaps that template does not allow this option? I have the most updated version of Gantry. I'll send along a screen shot when I get to a different computer.

    • I have found another template that has the features that Ben's example show where you can add a custom logo for your second language. Very few RT templates have this feature unfortunately. I have copied and pasted the entire <fields name="logo" type="selectedset" label="LOGO"> section from the template-options.xml file from the template that has the logo replacement feature into my template-options.xml file and it seems to have duplicated the functionality very well. I can select "custom" pick a different logo and upload it etc. however the changes are not reflected on the front end. Likely there is another area of the site which needs to be edited. It doesn't look like template.css needs changes so perhaps index.php or some other file or files?
