SOLVED Prevent pop up ads

    • Hi,

I have a problem that one of my clients has pointed out to me whilst their site is under development, I have seen this occur on another computer before and this was a result of the clients computer not having any anti virus or security software running on their machine. The problem is that certain text throughout the site becomes a hyperlink for a pop up ad. Is there anything I can do, as the website developer to prevent my clients, un secure, as it may well be, computer from displaying these ads? I'm wondering if there is some code that I can add to my index.php file. I can't control my clients computers, nor the software or browsers that they use, it is just annoying that they are seeing these ads on their site. Any advise would be appreciated.

      Thanks,
      Scott

    • Unsure as to what you mean?

Are you referring to code that you/he has added?

You can easily stop pop ups (adblock springs to mind in GC).

Can you clarify or pop a url to see this issue?

      Thanks
      Daren

    • Hi,

Adblock would be a plugin that the client would have to install, I was wondering if there was anyway for me to make sure that the client does not see these ads in their site without them having to install or do anything. The ads I'm talking about are where certain text in the content of the site, can be anywhere on the site, become hyperlinks and when rolled over open up a pop up window. As I mentioned, this is only a problem on some pc's, doesn't seem to effect macs, who do not have any anti virus software running (as far as I can tell). I can't send you a screen shot, as the problem only occurs on my clients computer, however, as it is my client, they are a little concerned that when the site goes live they will have these annoying ads on their site. I can advise them to install adblock, but it's already in my clients head that many other people viewing their site may have the same set up as them and they will also see these ads, so I was wondering what I could do to prevent these ads.

      Thanks,
      Scott

    • That's exactly it. Thank you. Obviously it's a problem that needs to be addressed on the clients computer, thanks for the link. :D

    • This is a browser issue that only affects their PC's and has nothing to do with the website whatsoever.

They need to install some decent antivirus/malware protection, and clean anything that's already in place within their pc's.

    • I thought that this was the case, just wanted to rule every other possibility out, thanks for confirmation. :D
