Hello, i need to protect a directory against download.
ok, it's for protecting copyright on a mp3 folder... i use 1pixel audio Bot as an mp3 player but and it's logic if i protected the mp3 folder on my website with an .htaccess you'll know the bot can't access too... i'll put a blank html file in mp3 folder but it's just protecting listing of the folder... if i would like to check the pdf and print option of joomla, lol... it's worse because the pdf show the target of bot ... (audio)mp3/nameofmp3.mp3(/audio)
ok if anyone have a solution maybe like recode the bot 1pixel audio or another joomla bot or component who can protected audio against download but give possibilty of streaming the audio it's pretty cool
I hope lot of people reply to this subject because i need to arrived to do that !

Are you sure the htaccess will block the bot? If it does you can exempt your own IP...

I protected with an .htaccess, little precision with my panel board provides by my hoster siteground... in this case it's a dialog box wants login password for accessing... and in this case when the bot try to play the dialog box opening for all people !
when i see your reply, i realize you telling me to made my own htaccess and htpassword by myself... in your case is the bot playing mp3 and no dialog box appear ???

The htaccess rules i posted (above) will not pop up any dialog box. It will simply block all IP's from seeing anything in that directory. By exempting your own IP from the rule, it should allow your bot to access those mp3 files.
No dialog box for anyone! - Say no to Internet Explorer 6.

because if i put a blank html file in the mp3 directory anyone can't seeing what's in the mp3 folder too... no ?

It blocks access... nothing in that directory will be seen, accessed, touched or heard.
Even your index.html will not be accessible. - Say no to Internet Explorer 6.

Keep in mind that if your internet provider does not give you a static-ip address, you will have problems in the future. A lot of cheap DSL providers use dynamic IP DNS options and you could get a new ip address every week... or even everyday.
Some internet providers will offer Static IP's if you ask for them. You just need to check into it.

eh golum (thanks first) seconth, tell me... i code a htaccess like you wrotte and transfer by ftp in mp3 folder ? no htpassword is in use just a htaccess coding like you told ?
