for what its worth i think 9/10 cats wont be bothered about this. its a commercial product and its to be expected that it will contain a link back to the creator somewhere.

anyone that thinks any different really should look at a few commercial products they've purchased recently and get a grip.
as for ken mcd; what did forrest gump say?

as for not mentioning that particular line was in the code it's 'bullshit' to expect the customers to be told of all changes or additions to a product or service.

but this is just my humble opinion.

    • I have no idea about that guy, i've never even spoken to him before but he does have a nasty habit of inciting unrest that I do not think is helpful for joomla.

    • The professional way would have been for Ken to bring it up to Andy in private. I don't mind RT getting any mileage (or kilometerage for you in the UK and elsewhere). It's just bad form to engage in this kind of innuendo.

There is a guy, locally, that I've discussed things with, privately, over e-mail that have been shown to others. What a turd. I'll not trust him again.

Ken you should apologize - and then let's all be friends and move on.

    • Hi,

administrating a website requires basic HTML knowledge, even with Joomla. Viewing the source code of a website is really not difficult. There is even a in-built Joomla function to view the "index.php". If one is concerned about the Google ranking he better should have a look at the page source code anyway.

I really don't see the point in blaming Andy and the word bullshit is definitally not acceptable! It just speaks for the character of the person using the word...

      Roland

PS: By the way, Google is changing its policies constantly anyway, because it wants to make sure that people are not cheating their pages up in the ranking.

Go check out his comments on his site, he states pretty well his concerns regarding both.

A couple of the new tools in OpenSEF=>SEO assistant is a keyword checker with percentages and link popularity comparison.

Someone interested in SE competition will find Andys links doing several things which appear odd at first glance for an innocent link back credit. Such as prime top placement, bold tags, hidden anchors and displaying on every page servered up. At first glance it appears well constructed and strategically placed.

Competing for SE ranking sometimes comes down to very small percentages to push a page up or down. So, for most of us it's a non-issue - .25% keyword density and an extrememly strong anchor means nothing. For others it's a cause for concern.

    • Andy,

I read some of the stuff being sent across the world where you name is attached negatively, and I am forced to make a contribution. There seems to be a clear is he Hero or is he Villain opinion being developed.

For sure, whatever we do in our lives we have to assume it and live with it. We are public figures and we know that people love to throw the proverbial stone.

We are all looking for an edge in a market that changes daily, and really which we still have not defined.

One wolnd ask the question - what is the difference between Nike who sells an espensive T-Shirt and places the globally recognised logo everywhere they can and Andy Miller leaving his logo on something he took pains to create. Is it just permission or transparency....some people actually refuse to buy a shirt without the logo...so why are we not proud to have Andy Miller associated with our work.

One would ask the question - who is the Hero (KM for bringing the issue up and at the same time looking to gain notoriety for himself) or Andy Miller who had worked F___ing hard for a belief in an idea, spending countless hours of his time which has created countless busines opportunities for people around the world and benefiting (by giving access to) many more private individuals to the technology.

Andy Miller YOU are the HERO....the efforts you have made in your private life we cannot start to repaid.

I urge you to move on....from personal experience, these things happen, however unjust they are, they happen, as there are always people out there wanting to attract attention and be important.

You have learnt and we have learnt.

Your community needs you and we need you to be creative.....

I repeat...Andy Miller YOU ARE A HERO...so please don't let this stuff get you down....view the situation as an opportunity and don't make it become a threat.

The Spanish have a saying...All publicity is good publicity.....even when it's good....cause it invariably never is....
