I'm currently working on a self storage unit website and the owner asked to have a language translator component installed. Since this site specializes in local self storage in areas like Marysville, I'm not sure how much value there is in this functionality.
Would something like this hurt a website's online search rankings?

Automatic language translator extensions (in my opinion) are not good solution in any case. Automatic translators are not perfect at all and translated web pages looks really unprofessional with such bad translation
The only real solution is to use professional translation services to manually translate all the web site content and then use those for multilingual web site configuration - Check my services at: Mihha-Vision
