    • I am looking for some detailed SEO advice for Joomla, that goes beyond. SEO friendly URLs, H1 and H2 tags, naming images.
What for example should i put in the right site of the box in articles. Meta Description, Meta Keywords, Robots, Author, Content Rights, does it matter? Will it affect my SEO.
Are there any slideshow modules that are better than others for SEO?
What about module text versus article text, does it make a difference?
Above the fold or below the fold, does it matter in Joomla?
Are the 2013 templates better for SEO than the 2010?
Anything else I should be aware off?

      Thanks Angy

    • I am very interested in learning about the same things as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find specific advice for SEO & the Joomla platform.

      Thanks!

    • I'll type up my little rant on SEO...

Yes, there are some things that can be done to make a site with "better" SEO than others. The issue you are battling though when you go beyond the typical suggestions is that Search Engine Companies are constantly looking for ways to "beat the cheats". This means any tricks you implement today may not work tomorrow...or worse yet, get you penalized.

Messing with URLs beyond what a core system offers is a bad idea and can get you in trouble down the line. Google and others pay attention to widely used systems like Joomla and Wordpress and can actually crawl those sites better when they are not messed with. If you customize your urls beyond that, their algorithms for crawling your site fail in the respect of recognizing it as a Joomla site or Wordpress site.

      The bottom line:

A site that has gone through a great extent to make SEO a priority is also a site that has shifted resources away from making good content.

Focus on doing the right things and sign up for Google Webmaster Tools and use Google Analytics, but don't kill yourself over trying to force things beyond the standard recommendations. Once you've got your bases covered, it's time to create better and better content. Things will fall in to place and last over time if you do that.

    • My personal opinion is to stay away from it. RocketTheme uses the core Joomla set up for urls and has a pretty high search ranking with Google.

Every time I've seen that extension used, it was to overcome poor content planning and poor site organization. With a little more thought put in to the site set up, you really shouldn't need it.

I'm sure you'll find various opinions and I'm not saying mine is definitely right, but what I do know is sites that try to force the url issue too hard end up in a jam a year or two down the line.

Think for the long haul and don't drift too far from your sites primary purpose. :cheesy:
