    • Hello Rockettheme,

I've waited a long time for J3 compatibility with old templates, but there seems to be no new developments since many months ago.

Sorry to ask but, do you really plan to make those templates Joomla 3 compatible?

This is my issue, I have some clients that needs to upgrade from 1.5 but is not to fair to charge for J2.5 upgrade, when J3.5 is so close. Then if those templates wont be J3 compatible, we will need to select another design.

To date you have about 40 templates on "Scheduled for Development" for J3, IMHO, you might have a many unsatisfied members when J3.5 comes out if you dont have those templates ready.

      Regards.

    • hi there,

we are aware that there have not been any new j3 releases in a long time, this is mostly due to all the work on rtv3.
rtv3 has been out for about 6 weeks now, so we were able to return to concentrate again on regular extensions and template updates. so far we've pushed out several extensions updates including gantry itself and just last week we have released regular template updates for all our 2013 templates as well as hadron. still on the list for this month are anacron and epsilon and our next j3 conversion which is mercado. for next months we're planning more regular template releases for our 2012 templates as well as some more j3 conversions. we still try to stick with our plan and convert all those templates that have been labeled in our compatibility matrix.

regarding any j1.5 sites waiting for j3.5...
joomla itself has ended support for j1.5 in 2012! there is no reason at all to hold onto this version until j3.5 is released. why?
it's a big security risk to leave any production site on j1.5
      www.joomla.org/announcements/release-new...stable-released.html
Support for Joomla 1.5 ended in April of 2012 and we continued to support it unofficially until the end of 2012 for medium to high priority security issues.

Does that mean your 1.5 site has suddenly stop working? No, your site will continue to work as it always has (assuming your host hasn't changed anything on their end). However, Joomla’s developers will not be releasing new versions for Joomla 1.5, so you won’t be getting bug fixes or security fixes. For this reason, it’s recommended to migrate from 1.5.

joomla 3.5 is not 'so close'.
originally j3.5 was scheduled for spring 2014. but that has been the plan a long time ago.
just look at the recent j3.3 release schedule!
      community.joomla.org/blogs/leadership/18...elease-schedule.html
      22 April - Joomla 3.3 Release
so if j3.3 is now scheduled for end of april, that will push the eta for 3.5 stable further into the future.

updating any site from j1.5 to j3.x won't be any easier than updating any site from j1.5 to j2.5 first and then to 3.x.
This is my issue, I have some clients that needs to upgrade from 1.5 but is not to fair to charge for J2.5 upgrade, when J3.5 is so close.
honestly, it's much more unfair to leave your client sites on j1.5 until now where their sites could get hacked any day.

anyways, we'll do our best to get those conversions out as soon as possible! :)

    • Hi Kat, thank you very much for your clear answer.

We are totally agree that shouldnt be any website now with J1.5, the thing is, the final client has to pay for that upgrade. Sadly most clients approve the upgrade until they got hit by a hacker, and even when we build that websites about 4 years ago we cant aford to give away the upgrade.

any way, if the template is not j3 now, we will have to convince them to get the j2.5 upgrade, and as you stated those templates will eventually be j3 ready, we will stick with same design.
anyways, we'll do our best to get those conversions out as soon as possible! :)

      thanks!

    • hi again,

it's the best choice to update to j2.5 asap.
later on when j3.5 is out, we can keep our fingers crossed that it will be a simple 1-click update from j2.5 to j3.5, similar to what it is right in most cases when going from j2.5 to j3.2. :)
