SOLVED - Rocket Theme's SEF Component - What is it? Questions...

Posted 17 years 3 months ago
    • Hi! and Happy New Year!

      1) What is the SEF component used on rockettheme.com?

      2) I seem to crash my site everytime I try to install one, so...
Does anyone have a thread from Joomla or Rocket Theme they can recommend on how to properly install the component.

      3) Is this how you would achieve a url like "demo.rocketheme.com", instead of rockettheme.com/demo ?

      Thanks

    • demo.rocketheme.com is a subdomain; actually I use SefAdvance (paid component) for my websites and I'm very satisfied with it. It's a great sef component, very easy to install and the support from sakic is amazing... but for all of this you must paid 40€.

    • demo.rockettheme.com is a subdomain of rockettheme.com. You can create a subdomain in cPanel. Tutorial here .

The ones I use are Artio JoomSEF and sh404SEF. Artio's free version has advertising metadata in the meta tags (but can easily be removed in the latest version). sh404SEF works natively very nicely with Virtuemart and both have a plugin system where you can install SEF plugins for a lot of popular extensions.

I'm not familiar with other commercial SEF extensions...

    • What component do you want to use?

If you pretend to buy SefAdvance, the new .htaccess is part of the kit you will receive.

However, take a look at www.joomlatutorials.com/walkthrough/visual_tutorials.html and look at OpenSef component. I think the modifications in .htaccess are the same with other free components (or very similar)... after the installation of your free component, start to look the visual tutorial at step 11

    • Seems I was in a messy situation with GoDaddy Hosting. I could not get Artio SEF or sh404sef to to work. I searched every forum on joomla and on the respective component sites. There were 40 different answers on how to get the .htaccess file to work on a GoDaddy shared server.

I tried to find OpenSEF, but it is no longer available, BUT check it out...

      extensions.joomla.org/component/option,c...k_id,2524/Itemid,35/

The extension is now called NuSEF, and it is an exact copy of the discontinued OpenSEF.

Here is the best part: I installed the component, enabled it, uploaded the .htaccess file, AND it worked immediately and flawlessly.

WOW - It's never been so easy. Thanks guys for your recommendations.

      PS - Franck's suggested tutorial...Franck wrote:

      is very helpful...
