- Just curious, bug what hosting companys do you all prefer? I've heard of siteground, but dont know much about them. I'm currently using godaddy with joomla, works good, but the downside is that it is on a shared server?''

I am not a huge fan of godaddy for hosting, but if it is working well for you then you should probably stick with it. Also, unless you are going to drop some serious money for your own dedicated server than "shared" is about the only choice.

you're going to get lots of examples on this thread as eventually everyone finds a host they're happy with - but everyone has different definitions for why they are happy
i'm not going to tell you mine but i will tell you where i host:
bluehost.com - simply for storage and email of one account - no websites apart from a 301 to another site
5quidhost.co.uk - for everyhing else. i have a VPS and a shared account and it's like i've found home. the big thing for me was the guy was in the UK. he basically has his own servers at a data centre in the US (as well as using some of their shared servers) and manages dedicated and VPS .. uptime is excellent, response is excellent but above all that its the customer service and personal attention. i shouldn't sing his praises too much because if he gets much bigger i might lose that or service might drop but if you're in the UK and you want good service i challenge you to find better
on the hosting front though, i've tried loads and what it comes down to is what makes you happy - which is why i've said you'll get loads of responses ... it's what you really want that counts. - www.c3p0.se - sweden

I used to use dreamhost (actually still have an account there) but they were always having troubles especially e-mail. My joomla sites ran just plain slow. I then got a reseller account at Hostgator and it has been awesome so far. Joomla sites run well and I dont think the sites have ever been down (this is from last summer til now).

LunarPages has been good for me. A couple of hiccups per year but otherwise fine service and good performance for the money.
