Header Integration w/ vBulletin

    • I currently have a website that uses vBulletin for evertyhing with vBAdvanced as the portal homepage. I would like to move to using Joomla for the majority of our site, with the exception of the forum, but don't know how to make it so the Joomla header works with the forum without using a wrapper. The wrapper is about the least friendly way since there are always instances where things don't scroll correctly, links open in new windows, etc.

Is this something you can provide assistance on or is it something you would do for a fee?

      Thanks!

    • The easiest way to do this is by taking the static code (output after being parsed from php) and integrating that into the "header" template of you vBulletin style. The same can be done with the "footer" template. The problem with doing it this way is if you have any Joomla modules in the header/footer area, they won't work properly in vBulletin. So you'll need to remove that static code from the vB "header".

      Hi Keith,
I have the same problem of Jeremy and I would ask to you if you can explain,
      in a more detailled way,
where I can take the "static code (output after being parsed from php)".

      Thank you very much.

(sorry for my bad english) ;D

    • Open your Joomla homepage in your web browser. You then need to view the Page Source. For example, in IE, you'd choose the View menu and then select Page Source. This is the final output your server has sent to your web browser.

Using this output, you'll need to determine where your header starts and stops. Copy that entire header source into your vBulletin Header template. You will also need to do the same for the footer. Hope this leads you in the right direction.

    • There are several Components - so called Bridges - that will wrap your Forum into your Jooomla-Site without Frames - i.E. have a look at Jfusion or search for "vbulletin" at extensions.joomla.org

    • I haven't tried jFusion just yet. I've seen it, but haven't had the time to test it out. It's on my list of things to do though. Any step towards merging vB and Joomla is a step in the right direction. The best CMS with the best forum.
