    • Probably a weird question:

Is it possible to NOT set a template as a 'default' template within multiple template use.

      Thanks in advance!

    • No, because then you would get an Error-Message saying, that the Template was not found.

    • Hi Chris , thanks for your answer.

I allready noticed that. Isn't it possible by adjusting something in the code? There must be something defining a template to be a default template.

    • Surely you could hack Core Files to do that, but that's always problematic, since you'll have to do the changes every time, you update joomla, again and you can seriously break things.
Tbh I don't see the point in having No Template either, because your Site will simply not function without any Template (it won't know, what to output and even if you manage, that it won't throw an error, it will probably only output a blank page).

Maybe describe, what exactly out intend to do, so we can help you better...

Well.. I want to use the same content in more then one layout. But the content is always showed in the default layout? Can I alter this?
Can I show a news item once in layout X , and when I’m in layout Z show the same news item in layout Z?

    • Instead of multiple template packages, just use one template but various styles. Each style can be a different layout.. one column, two columsn, three, four columns, dark, light, header, no-header, different module highlights, different typography etc.

      CSS is incredibly powerful.

If one had the time and incentive, one could make a single template contain the styles of and look like most, if not every RT template ever created. You'd of course have to start from scratch with the XHTML and then modify all the existing css for the templates to refer to the id's and classes in your one template, but it is possible.

It's easy enough to assign specific styles to categories or menu items, and would only take a few lines of php to change the style randomly on each page load, or every few minutes or hours.

However, to do either of these (random template or style), is to do yourself and your users a disservice IMHO. Personally, I wouldn't go back to a site that didn't have a consistent look to it. Different colors for different sections (think joomla.org) is great.. gives the user an idea where he or she is, but randomness is a big no-no.

    • Hey,

      Thanks for the answer.

I think I didn’t explain my problem very well. :)

We have one main site (deltalink) and then some sub-sites.(qnap). The sub sites are in most cases news section of the main site whit their own layout. They will also have a different url at the end!

We want to use news items on both sites…. but when I see latest news (all sections) on my main site it has to be in on other template then when I select the same news item in one of my sub site. Same content, different template! Is this possible? ???

If you want to see the situation … http://portal.deltalink.be  at the bottom you have a link to one of the subsites (qnap).

      Thanks!

    • The problem with that method Chris is that it doesn't persist as you navigate through the sub-site.
Stef why not just go into template manager and assign templates to each of the menu links (after creating a menu that holds links to each of those sub-sites)
