I know that some of the problems that IE7 had was actually the result of using old hacks that were no longer necessary. In other words, the hacks fixed things on IE6 but broke them on IE7. I'm curious how many of the problems in the default rendering mode of IE8 is the result of the same sort of thing, especially in light of the fact that it correctly renders the Acid 2 test?
Were the problem pages referenced using any sort of conditional code based on the user agent? If so, then that would cause IE8 to fault and yet it would be because of the source, not the browser.
