Google Website Optimizer? or Adding Javascript to Static Content

• A bit off topic, but this is an oft asked and seemingly unanswered question on the Joomla forum -hoping the sages here might have an answer...

I'm trying to test a couple of response form pages, to see which will result in higher conversions. Google Website Optimizer will do this, but I can't seem to make it work with Joomla (1.0.15). You need to create the multiple pages that you want to test, and add some Javascript to the beginning and end of the pages, so that Google can call or serve the multiple pages and track the conversions.

I tried adding the scripts to the static content HTML, but the script tags seem to get stripped off, so the body of the script appears on the page when you view it. Google obviously can't verify the scripts to run the testing.

I found a mambot called Opt-Bot, but the demo won't install (seems to be missing the XML), and the site is scary... No content in the forum, doesn't seem to be supported at all.

Does anyone have a better way for me to install the Javascript tracking codes? It's easy with Analytics, just slap it in the template HTML, but I'm having trouble with adding JS to specific content items in specific places.

Any suggestions? Any other multivariate testing options for Joomla?

Note: I can't write code at all, but I can follow directions well!

• I did it with modules.

Turn your wysiwyg editor off. (User manager, editor, select none)

Create a new module, plug your JS for test A in there. Do the same thing for test B.

Only publish the A module on the A test page, publish the B module for the B test page.

I put them in the debug position. Since it's only JS, it doesn't show up.

Don't know if that's what you're looking for, but it worked for me.

• cool. I'll give it a try! I was starting to try it using Jumi. I'll try it with the modules.

• If you need to add Javascript before and after your content I would download and install the Mod PHP module from Fiji Web Design - http://www.fijiwebdesign.com/downloads/task,cat_view/gid,90/ .

Add your Javascript to the module and it should render correctly.

I've been thinking about doing some multivariate testing myself, but haven't had the time. Leave a reply on this thread if the Mod PHP option works for you.

• I am going to try this for www.rlroofing.com , but i was also looking into conditional comments, would those be a better thing to use or is it the same effect as using a module? because, again i also know next to nothing about much of the java, c++, etc coding, but google mentions the script must be placed in the head and if its a module that wouldn't end up in the head position.
Just wondering because i want to run multiple tests and don't want to have to re-run them if its not working. I need this to work to become better at online marketing and your knowledge is much appreciated

Thanks for your help in advanced.
