  • What Template? How to modify? Need Help, any freelancers?

Posted 17 years 4 days ago
    • I'm making a Joomla! site, and I need it to look exactly or at least similar to http://www.plygem.com/index.html

      What Template should I use?

How would I modify to get it to look like that?

Anyone here a freelancer that could help?

    • I wonder what CMS they are using, is it Joomla?

Did you notice many of the pages are html, not php?

A lot of the links to their affiliates look like they're done in html / css, too.

If you want to build a site like that, look at the templates available, look at the module positions each has.

Which layout best matches what you are looking for?

I don't believe that that is a CMS JEM.

I notice that their email addresses are exposed to the www, ouch.

The site is okay, but nothing spectacular IMHO. You could replicate it fairly easy (relatively speaking) using any number of templates

    • Chris,

Do you run your installs from a host, if so, how many MSQL databases can you run?

Have you thought of installing multiple templates and testing them out to see what they can do?

Have you thought of running multiple installs of the same template for testing, e.g., one with sample data and one with no sample data, and building a site ‘from scratch’?

I usually start this way, installing a new template once with no sample data, once with sample data as a reference that’s never modified, and another to test components or modules before putting them on the live site.

If you don’t already, have you thought of running installs locally?

You could run five copies of each template, testing and trashing as you go.

If you really want to develop sites for profit you really need to understand how Joomla works and how you can get it to work for you.

IMHO, it’s more than, ‘Which template should I use?’, once you choose it, or understand how to make the best choice, it’s more a question of how can you exploit the template to its maximum potential.

On your road to finding the best template, going through a half dozen or so and finding out which ones aren’t right is just as important as choosing the right one off the bat. That comes from experience, not advice.

    • For testing purposes a local install is useful.

      /just sayin'

    • Roland,

Don't want to hijack this thread, but since you mentioned it....

Any info on how to get started running locally?

Must be way better than waiting for pages to refresh over the net.....
    • Thanks,
