I've been learning Joomla, and have gotten decent at moving stuff around, making menus and other things. But I notice that I have a lack of understanding when it comes to basic content creation, creating new pages, adding articles to User Modules, etc.
The tutorials here are very useful, but I haven't found any that cover basic content and page creation. For example, I can't find a tutorial with step by step instructions on how to add an article (with a "read more...) to a User Module. Or another example would be if I create a new page, how do I link to it from a text link in an article?
Does anyone know where I can find tutorials on basic content and page creation?
OK, here's a good example. On the Dimensions template in the User 1 Module, the "Mootools Integration" article (if it is an article) sends a "learn more..." link at the bottom sending you to a page with "Dimensions Menu Options" in the title. I'm trying to teach myself how this stuff works, but I cannot find that page in the admin section.
THAT'S the kind of gap I have in my knowledge so far...
Trying to learn the difference between pages, articles, modules and other things. This is waaaaaay past WYSIWYG web design...

Keep plugging away Doug, I think that you will be surprised at how fast you will learn Joomla. Once the pieces start to fall into place you will be well on your way mate! Once I made the switch from creating static sites to using Joomla for dynamic sites I have never looked back.

Same here...coming from way back in my 'HotDogPro' days and migrating to FP and then to DotNetNuke and now Joomla, I didn't grasp the unintuitive Section-Category-Article-Menu Item concept. But with some serious time spent soaking it all in, reading the forums, watching some videos out there, reading the Joomla guide, etc, etc, it will, believe it or not, "click." Once it does, you probably won't look back.
And as JEM stated, joining RT puts you way ahead of the curve from the general 'joomla riff-raff.' I've learned more here in my my first couple of months than I learned spending twice that time in the Joomla forums. I read everything and have probably a *bazillion* post-it-notes covering my office desk...full of coffee stains and a valuable knowledge base.
