    Hosting my own site

Posted 16 years 11 months ago
    • Guys, just wondering about a few things here.

I've always used a host provider for my sites so I don't know much about hosting my own site.
I'd like to host my own joomla site with a Rockettheme template of course! Is this a easy to do?

      Best,
      Hugh

    • Are you saying that you are setting up a server? If so, I hope that you have a pretty big pipe to the internet and experience with servers.

    • Retired, but build and run websites for organisations of school leaders and others - e.g. http://www.icponline.org, http://www.aspa.asn.au, http://www.appa.asn.au

    • Or you can rent a server from any number of hosting companies - you maintain the software and they maintain the hardware and the pipe to the internet. Once you have the server, you need to find out how to upload website files to it and how to run the company's maintenance program package. My son does our technical support, and I run about a dozen Joomla-based sites on our server. So you can do it.

On the other hand, if you want to host it on your home computer, then you do need a lot of bandwidth if you get many visitors.
