I just discovered Joomla a week ago. I discovered Replicant 2 shortly after. I am using an XAMPP install on my Windows Vista laptop as a test server. I have successfully installed the Replicant 2 RocketLauncher Pack. And, I have began to alter the template.
I found the original Replicant and I like some of the theme elements. I decided to try to install Replicant as a second theme. I want to build it up and compare the two. Then launch which ever I decide I like better.
However, after downloading all of the Replicant files for Joomla 1.5, I have had no success installing a second theme. I would like to use the RocketLauncher pack, as it has all the extensions.
How can I install the second theme? Thank you in advance for your help!
It contains a complete version of the latest Joomla release, the template, and all the sample data you see in the demo. Whether or not you decide to install the sample data is up to you. If you want to replicate the demo site, use it, if you want a clean install of Joomla with the template applied, don’t use it.
You can not use the Rocket Launcher in an existing install of Joomla. If you already have an existing install of Joomla, you will need to apply the template file to it.
Unzip the Rocket Launcher.
FTP the folder and its contents to, depending on your platform, public_html or httdocs
Alternately, you can upload the zipped RL package and extract it on your server through the control panel.
Before you start, you’ll need to create a database on your server.
Once you’ve uploaded the Rocket Launcher and created a database, browse to the folder,
You don't have to navigate to the installation folder, if Joomla hasn't been installed yet, it will navigate to the install directory automatically. (How cool is that?!)
Screen 4:
You’ll need the following info to make the database connection with Joomla:
Host Name
Username (for the database you’ve created)
Password (for the database you’ve created)
Database Name (for the database you’ve created)
Screen 5:
You can skip this and use an FTP client
Screen6:
Site Name: This will appear in the title bar of your browser.
Your e-mail: the address you want to use to receive mail from the site
Password: this is for the admin login for Joomla, it can be different than the DB password.
Install Sample Data?
If you want to replicate the site with all the sample content, click on ‘Install Sample Data’.
If you don’t want to install the sample data, click next, a prompt will appear confirming that you want to skip.
Screen 7:
You’ll be prompted to delete or rename the installation directory.
Before you can view the site or login as administrator, you’ll need to browse to the directory in your FTP client or CP and do so.

So, you have a few options:
A) Apply the template to the existing install, in which case you'll have to install the extensions as well. You can then use a combination of extensions on the site, but one template will have to be the default. I.e., you'll have to choose which template's Module positions are best and use that template. You can choose the default template through Extensions > Template Manager.
To allpy a template to an existing install, download the template file, not the Rocket Launcher, and install the template as you would any other extension. If the template has additional extensions that the original does not, download and install them as well.
Note: You can apply different templates to different menus if you like, for example, Home is Replicant2, and About Us is Replicant, etc. This is also done thought the template manager. By default, all menus are assigned to the default template, so you choose a template besides the default and apply menu items to it. They'll be removed from the default and moved to the new template automatically.
This is usually done when you want to change colors or fonts of you default template, so you duplicate the template, make the changes and assign menu items to the duplicate. In this case, the styling is consistent be cause the duplicate is a copy of the original varying only in colors and fonts. If you assign different menus to different templates instead of duplicates, note that each menu will look noticeably different.
Create a new database and use the Rocket Launcher to install Replicant. In which case, you'll have two separate sites. You can work with both and see which one suits your needs best.
