Which is better/difference between RokBridge and Jfusion?

    • I'm sorry for asking this question but I'm using Rockettheme templates and I'm going to pay the extra for the PHPbb3 templates so I'm wondering whats best for a strong community based website. I want one that will work great and frameless along with my other components like Community Builder mostly. Other then that I just want to know every one's experience with one or the other.

    • I'd recommend RokBridge for sure. It's a more stable system with much less code. It's also used here on this site which shows it can handle quite a bit of traffic and members. It does what you need and does great at it.

JFusion has more whistles and bells and links between more softwares, but this can just be extra code to cause extra issues if you're not using any of it.

As for working with Community Builder, the only item to worry about there, and you have to with either system, is making sure all the registration/forgot-password/reset-password links point to the community builder items. As long as registration is done through community builder, your users info will be saved in the CB data tables and will also carry over to the Joomla tables which will work with RokBridge to sync between phpBB3 and Joomla.

Running the phpBB3 install in it's own template is a great idea too. Stay away from anything that says it will automatically integrate the look. The Rockettheme templates are a better bet and do not interfere with phpBB3's core system.

Also, as I understand it, the developers here stay in close contact with the phpBB3 guys to make sure everything stays compatible.

    • Awesome that's exactly the kind of explanation I needed, rokbridge it is then! I just have one more question. I'm trying to use Signal login for my site so I'm wondering if there is already a thread out there with a how-to on changing the links to point to CB. I don't want to mess up any coding on my site and I'm infamous for that.

Also I wanted to ask will this automatically sync the users after I finish the installation process?

    • Just chipping in! :) The bells and whistles that JFusion adds are pretty beneficial to users such as User syncing, user conflict resolution, Discuss and search bots, multiple slaves(in case you plan to expand later on by adding other software), auto update to new version etc.

      Here are the JFusion features.

And here is what people feel about it

Good luck with whatever you choose. :)

    • Just a couple more points:

JFusion is "neat" but much of that just conflicts with actually running the core system. It is also subject to a master slave set up with may not be appealing to some people. If you change your mind it can be cumbersome to have to switch which is master and which slave. It has extras like being able to wrap the forum into Joomla, but that tends to cause more template issues and isn't a tight custom integration like running a specific phpBB3 template like the Rockettheme ones. It's an unneeded addon really.

Rokbridge was designed to allow phpBB3 to run as it's own core system and not to interfere with it at all. It really becomes appealing when it's time to make upgrades too! I've switched the system I use for registration a couple times due to user requests and so I could rebuild the other which make the two way integration from RokBridge very nice too. No master/slave worries, both directions just work seemlessly.

Like I said, Rokbridge does everything you need it to and it's a sneeze away from being stable.

I'm sure you'll see more responses from the JFusion team here though. They like to "advertise" on everyone's forums. :P

I doubt there are more team members here but I am sure JFusion users and me will be giving Ben a really tough time. :P

We honestly think we have a superior system that people love and what harm in advertising it. ;) And by the way when did RT become 'everyone's' forum? You surely are degrading my trust in these forums. :P

Superior to what? You are comparing two completely different components with different purposes.
What is all this superiority about anyway? Aren't both bridges open source projects. Isn't one of the ultimate goals of open source that users benefit from using a product for the purpose it was made for? For my purposes Rokbridge is great, Jfusion is for me way too much, but I am not saying that one is superior over the other. If you really want to go into that, I think you should take your postings to your own jFusion forum to advertise your product there. Because that is what you are doing, advertising a product plain and simple, and you do that in a way that comes close to spamming.
