    Entitlements question

Posted 16 years 2 months ago
    • Hi everyone,

I have few questions about the entitlements as I do not really understand it fully.

I am allowed to have 3 entitlements with my account. I have uploaded 3 rocketlaunchers to my testing server – so I can show the client the different versions of the web site he can choose from.

Now I want to upload the RocketLuncher to his (my client) server. Is it taken into account the usage of the template on my testing server? Even If I am going to delete them all now, since I want to redo it on the clients server?

      Any explanation would be appreciated.

    • Entitlements applies to live sites and not local ones.

    • Does it mean that if I put it onto live server but into subfolder ( just for testing purposes) it does not count? :)

    • As long as it's not accessible to the outside world i guess it should be ok.

    • Oh, well, please look at this URL:

      www.leonmaughan.com/q

I guess its accessible but I only put it there for the client to check the initial idea. What does it mean now? Do I need to pay again even if I delete this one?

    • You can always set the site as offline and then give your client a login. If you have 3 entitlements you can use 3 templates at the same time but you can change them at any time you want.

    • Hi Prim, thank you for such a fast reply.

If you could still answer these 2 questions for me it would be great

Well, I had used 3 Rocketlauchers on one domain (3 different templates for one client) – I just put them into different subfolders.

      www.myname.com/a - one RocketLauncher, www.myname.com/b - 2 RocketLauncher, www.myname.com/c - 3 RocketLauncher

So my question 1 is :

Have I used all my entitles then?

      Question 2 is:

How do people go about with setting up the web site for the client with Joomla ? I don’t think everyone is putting the RocketLaucher at the root of the client’s webs site and modifies it there.

What is the most common way of doing things like that?

    • I want to say 'demos don't count' becuse they're not 'live' on the domain, i.e., the final product on a live site.

I don't think it's an issue, as long as when your client's sites 'go live' your live sites on live domains don't exceed your entitlements.

I would suggest developing not developing your sites on your clients domain.

That means during development they'd have access to the template and the DB, which could in some cases cause a problem.

For example, if they cancel the project or don't make the final payment, with your work on their server you have no recourse.

I would use a subdomain on your own server to demo the client's site for them and when all the work is done and paid for, transfer the site using JoomlaPAck or a similar component.

For develpoers, the most common way goes one step further, developing the site on a local install, moving to a demo server to show the client, and then moving it once more when the project is complete.
